Artist’s Purpose Statement
3 things exist in the world that have always had the ability to cross every border humanity has ever drawn, which is good cause fuck borders. Those 3 things are: art, food and music. All 3 speak before words arrive. All of these can cross generations, languages, religion, political lines and more, feeding something in us that ideology cannot reach. Every culture that has ever existed on earth has made art, music and grown food. Not some cultures, not just the advanced cultures, every single one. Before written language, before organized religion, before the state, before money, before borders, and classes, there was someone painting on a cave wall, someone making music and someone growing and harvesting food to feed themselves, their families and their community. Art and food are not products of civilization. They are its roots. They are the two things human beings have always done to say:
“We are here, We matter, and We intend to continue”
Creative practices are one of the most powerful forces for social, political, and economic transformation ever known. Abstract Farmhouse exists to showcase art and food as twin instruments of change, to amplify silenced voices, challenge unjust systems, build economic opportunity for communities pushed to the margins, and insist that:
“Dignity and equality are non-negotiable”
Abstract Farmhouse is committed to placing the creative practice at the center of how communities understand, challenge, and reshape the systems that govern their lives, through building relationships with the community, legislators, city officials, public defenders, and civic organizations who can facilitate action and initiate policy change. We are here to demonstrate that art-making and the creative process can generate sustainable livelihoods, anchor community development, support local agriculture, and drive civic engagement.
Our primary strategy is deep, ongoing partnership with, first and foremost the communities I am aiming to serve, along with social justice organizations, civil rights groups, immigrant advocacy networks, racial equity coalitions and LGBTQ+ organizations
None of that can be accomplished alone
